Activities

Continued clearance of blackberry and ivy, and planting native shrubs and ferns in a corridor along Thornton Creek close to Northgate Mall and the Northgate Community Center to protect native trees and shrubs for improved wildlife habitat as well as human visitor enjoyment. Come see the progress and be part of the success! Work areas are level and easy to access. This event was rescheduled from October 26 and will be rescheduled again if raining steadily and windy again.

What to Bring

Bring yourself in gloves, sturdy shoes, long slacks and long sleeves appropriate for the weather. We have a few extra pairs of gloves if you forget yours. Please mark any favorite tools you might bring to the work party so they go home with you. . Tools, tarps, buckets, wheelbarrows, and mulch all supplied by Green Seattle Partnership. LIght snacks and cool beverages provided too.

Where to Meet

Meet in the entry area, in the corner bordered by NE 105th Street and 8th Ave NE on the west side of 8th. Get there from I-5 by taking the Northgate exit, and heading east on Northgate Way along the north side of the mall. Take a right and head south on 8th Ave NE. Look for a friendly Forest Steward with a sign in sheet and for a large sequoia tree in the corner of the work site. There will also be event signage

Where to Park

Limited parking is available on 8th Ave NE and NE 104th Street, and other nearby residential streets. There are bus stops on 5th Ave NE. You can walk across from the bus stop on NE105th to 8th Ave NE and the entry for the natural area. There is paid parking available at Northgate Mall.
