Schmitz Preserve Park - Survival Rings for trees …08/08/2026

Activities

We will be hiking off trail to reach trees that have ivy growing up the trunks. This ivy acts like a sail on the tree making it more likely to fall during a wind storm. The ivy growing vertically also stimulates it to make seeds, which spreads more ivy. We will create Survival Rings by cutting the ivy that is on the trunks and pulling it away from the bases of the trees. This will be a more difficult volunteer event for hardy souls!
