Carkeek Park - Tree Protection for Beaver …06/12/2025

Activities
Help protect our redcedars and other trees at Carkeek! Though more beaver-tolerant plants will be added this winter, the beavers are already hungry for the sweet cambium of our lovely western redcedar in addition to their usual diet high in herbaceous plants.
We will be creating and installing tree protection caging around high-priority trees along Pipers Creek and trails.
All ages OK
5 out of 20 participants registered.
What to Bring
Boots, if you would like to cage along the stream (there are plenty along the trail as well!).
Water
Weather-appropriate clothing
Gloves will be provided.
Where to Meet
Meet at the Model Airplane Field parking lot at Carkeek. This is the roundabout parking area south of the main road and wetland area. Coordinates: (47.711257, -122.378514)
Where to Park
Park at the Model Airplane Field or the long lower parking lot along the lower road (near Chum Salmon Viewing Area label and Pipers Creek Trail on maps).
