Schmitz Preserve Park - Schmitz Park Restoration05/23/2025

Activities

This is a newly adopted forest steward parcel, just down the trail from the Stevens St. trailhead along the Adams Highway section of the park. The first area we'll work on we cleaned an abandoned encampment from in January, removing over 900 pounds of trash and broken down gear. We'll continue that cleanup as there's still little stuff to grab. We'll also remove ivy and other invasives and possibly scout a dammed area of wetlands that is part of a tributary flowing to the creek to get it back to a more natural state.

Note: there's a little elevation to get from the main park trail up the social trail into the work site. Once in the site it's fairly flat.

All ages OK

What to Bring

We'll supply hand tools and have a selection of gloves, but if you have your own that you like feel free to bring those. This will be a light and easy cleanup day to get our bearings and develop longer term plans for the parcel. We just placed a plant order for the Winter so we'll be doing lots of work in this area this year readying it for those plants.

Where to Meet

We'll meet at 9:30am at the Admiral Way & Stevens St. trailhead, right off the north end of the bridge. If you come late we'll be about a 30 second walk down the trail on the left. I'll leave a sign up at the short social trail leading in to the work site.
