Discovery Park - Garry Oak tree Planting11/22/2025

Activities

The best time to plant an oak tree is 30 years ago; the second-best time to plant an oak tree is today. Our native Garry oak tree is a keystone species to coastal bluffs and outwash soils of Puget Sound. Oak trees host more insects than almost any other plant in the area and insects are the basis of the food web. We'll be planting oaks in the open sunny areas of the south meadow. We'll also have some goldenrod and shore pines to plant as well.
