Warren G. Magnuson Park - Magnuson Reforestation02/15/2026

Activities

Help improve habitat and create replacement forest on a formerly denuded navy airfield. (Above photo taken in Navy era). The aim is to create healthy forest habitat and increase beneficial ecosystem services including provision of human enjoyment and health. It is also an opportunity to enjoy nature and learn a bit about native plants while doing satisfying work.

Most of the wprk in this event will be cutting down part of a dense blackberry thicket and digging up large blackberry roots to prepare for future trees and native plantings.

Because the work may be beyond capability of youth below high school age, please get the leader’s permission before registering if younger.

What to Bring

Dress for the day's weather and wear long pants, long sleeved top, and closed toe shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Wear layers if it is chilly and if it is rainy bring rain gear. Bring a full water bottle and snack.

Where to Meet

From the swim beach parking lot head north about 3/8 mile to the north cross park trail. Then head westward and uphill for a couple of hundred feet to the drive which leads north to a vehicle gate in the off-leash area fenceline. We will be working along the trail which heads west from there through a blackberry thicket.

Be aware that if used from outside the park Goggle maps driving push point directions may mistakenly guide to NOAA which is fenced off from the park to try to reach meeting place.
