Warren G. Magnuson Park - Pond area weeding -- …07/09/2026

Activities

Join us for a restoration work party in honor of Jean. We'll be sprucing up an awesome viewpoint on top of a berm just west of the ponds in Magnuson Park. It will be a great spot to return to in the future to watch wildlife to the east, a baseball game to the west, and think about how much Jean meant to us.

We plan to focus on weeding it (mostly by pulling blackberries) over the summer, and then planting some native wildflowers this fall.

All ages OK

3 out of 8 participants registered.

What to Bring

We may be weeding plants with spines or thorns, so wear long pants and a shirt with long sleeves. Gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. Wear closed toe shoes you don't mind getting dirty. Dress for the day's weather. Wear layers if it is chilly and if it is rainy bring rain gear. Bring a full water bottle.

Where to Meet

We will meet at the berm.

If you park in the E5 parking lot, take the trailhead (known as the Frog Pond Trail, but I don't think there's any signage) from the northeast corner of the parking lot, turn left at the 'T' about 20 yards in, and walk about 100 yards until you see the big berm.

If you parked in the soccer fields parking lot, walk south past the turf soccer fields (not the rugby field). Continue on the trail that goes past the wooded area towards the outfield fence of the baseball diamond. The berm will be on your left.

Where to Park

It is easiest to park in the E5 parking lot. It is the lot just to the north of NE 65th St across from the USGS facility. Look for the towering pile of woodchips.

Alternatively, you can park in the lot by the soccer fields.
