Martha Washington Park - 🍂 October Oak Understory …10/11/2026
Activities
GSP is partnering with Queer the Land (queertheland.org) to support the ongoing stewardship of this oak understory garden as a space to build community and relationships with first food plants of the Coast Salish region. All experience levels welcome!
For this event we'll work on...
1) Processing seeds -- Feel free to bring baggies if you'd like to take some seeds for growing
2) Finishing cutting down the meadow patches -- Our annual late-summer practice in place of traditional controlled burns that maintained oak-camas prairies across the northwest
3) Raking leaves -- Preventing leaf litter from smothering our meadow patches by mulching the walking paths instead
Please note these activities may involve bending and kneeling. There's seating on-site, but the garden isn't wheelchair-accessible.
All ages OK
0 out of 12 participants registered.
What to Bring
Bring your own water and dress for the weather, including layers and sturdy shoes. Feel free to bring your own garden gloves and hand tools, we have some on site, as well as a first-aid kit. Snacks and foraged tea will be provided.
**Please not there are not restrooms on site**
Where to Meet
We'll meet inside the fenced understory garden on the east side of the park: click here
