Maple Wood Playfield - December Mulch-Fest at Maple ...12/08/2018

Host: Student Conservation Association

Activities

In November, the Student Conservation Association planted nearly 400 native trees and shrubs with the help of over 60 local volunteers for Green Seattle Day! This month, we will be returning to that planting site and mulching around our new baby plants to help keep them warm this winter. Mulching around young plants helps with water retention, soil health and weed suppression. And moving buckets of mulch is a great winter workout! Come on out this December and help the next generation of conservation leaders build another future healthy forest.

Open to the public

All ages OK

13 out of 50 volunteers registered.

What to Bring

Come dressed for the weather (rain or shine) in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes (rubber boots, hiking/work boots, tennis shoes), long sleeves, long pants, warm layers and rain jacket. We'll have tools and gloves for you to use, as well as coffee, water, and a mid-morning snack. Help reduce waste by bringing your own refillable coffee mug/water bottle if you have one.

Where to Meet

Meet at Maple Wood Playfield, 4801 Corson Ave S, Seattle, WA 98108 . You will see registration and hospitality tables near the parking lot.

Where to Park

The parking lot at Maple Wood Playfield should accommodate all volunteers. In the event that the parking lot fills up, there is street parking on Corson, right outside of the park.
