Activities
Capehart Forest is the most wildlife-safe area in Discovery Park. Intensive efforts have been underway for many years to manage the forest that protects wildlife, including replacement of non-native plants with natives. Native plants are vulnerable in the first year or two after planting, and you can help us increase survival rates and biodiversity by joining this work party to weed invasive plants like bedstraw and grass; both are putting at risk the small native plants put into the ground last fall and winter.

What to Bring
f you have knee pads and/or a kneeling pad, consider bringing with you since weeding usually involves being on your knees. We have some kneeling pads in case you don’t have a way to protect your knees.. The same holds true for weeding tools such as a hori hori or weeding claw or hand trowel. Again, we have some tools in case you don’t have or prefer not to bring your own. We may be in the sun part of the time (if it’s out!), so dress appropriately and bring water. Be aware that bedstraw, in particular, can be aggravating to bare skin for some people, so consider wearing long sleeves if this might be the case for you. As for gloves, we have lots of them, but bring your own, if you prefer. Unfortunately, we can’t provide snacks or water, so please come prepared with what you might need during this approximately three hour period.
Where to Meet
Please hike to the site and meet at the entrance to Capehart Forest, which is on Discovery Park Blvd. See attached graphic as to where this is. There is limited parking available on site. Please arrange this through Phil Vogelzang before day of.
Where to Park
East, north or south parking lots. From there the site is about 10 minute walk. The North parking lot is the closest, but not by much.
